Does the Hierarchical Structure of Companies Still Work

Many companies have a hierarchical structure as their organizational chart. You have likely experienced this yourself if you ever worked for a corporation before. But does this kind of structure still work? It was developed during the early part of the 20th century and has carried over into this century. It starts with a head person and then there are levels, often in the form of a pyramid, of managers and department heads. This is all followed by the workers that work for lower level management.
